How to upscale an AI image without losing detail

Most image models output around one to two megapixels. That is fine on a phone and not fine on a poster, a product page hero or a 4K screen. Upscaling bridges the gap, but not all upscalers do the same thing, and the wrong one turns skin into plastic.

Guide

Two kinds of upscaling

Fidelity upscalers enlarge the image and sharpen what is there without inventing anything. They are the right choice for logos, product shots and anything that must stay exactly as designed. Creative or generative upscalers re-render the image at higher resolution and add plausible detail: pores, fabric weave, foliage. They look dramatically better for portraits and scenes, and they will change small things.

Go 2x first and inspect. 4x in one jump on a soft source amplifies its flaws; two 2x passes with a check in between give you control.

In practice

Avoiding the plastic look

The waxy skin and over-sharp edges people associate with 'AI upscaling' come from pushing a creative upscaler too hard. Lower the creativity or denoise setting, keep some grain, and compare against the original at the same zoom before accepting. If the source is a generated image, it is often better to regenerate at the model's highest native resolution first and upscale less.

Step by step

How to do it in Vyndexo

Step 1

Choose the source

Pick the image in your Media Studio project. If you still have the prompt, consider regenerating at the highest native size first.

Step 2

Upscale

Use the Upscale and enhance action; choose fidelity for exact reproduction or enhance for photographic detail, and 2x or 4x.

Step 3

Compare

The upscaled version is saved beside the original. Open both at 100 percent and check faces and text.

Step 4

Export

Download in full resolution. Originals are never overwritten.

FAQ

Common questions

What resolution do I get?

Up to 4x the source; a typical 1024-pixel image becomes 4096 pixels on the long side, which prints sharply at A3.

Does upscaling cost the same as generating?

Usually less; the price is shown next to the action before you confirm, and failed runs are not charged.

Can I upscale video frames?

Upscaling applies to images. For video, generate at the model's highest resolution setting instead.
