Most AI image tools want a monthly fee whether you generate three images or three thousand. If you make images in bursts, around a launch, a campaign, a project, you end up paying for empty months. Pay-per-use fixes that: you buy credits when you need them, use them across every model, and keep what is left.
Why subscriptions are the wrong shape for image generation
Image work is lumpy. A designer might need two hundred generations in one week and none for the next month. A subscription prices the peak and charges it every month; the unused allowance usually expires. Credits price the actual usage, and if they do not expire there is no pressure to use them up before the end of the month.
The second problem is lock-in to one model. Subscription tools sell access to their own model. But the best model changes every few months, and the best model for a logo is not the best one for a portrait or a product shot. Paying per generation across many models means you always use the right one.
How it works in practice
You start on the Free plan, which costs nothing and includes two models and the fast chat. When you want the premium image models, you buy a Tools credit pack. Every image model shows its price in credits before you generate; you pick the model, generate, and the credits are deducted only if the generation succeeds. There is no renewal date and nothing to cancel.
If you generate every day, the Workspace plans include a monthly Tools credit allowance that works out cheaper per image, and unused credits roll over for a month. Either way the models are the same.
